Crossing the river, reaching the shore relies on the ferry

Buddha grants a hundred years, warm and full thanks to life

When the people prosper, only then are we at peace!

Breakfast, omelet, so delicious!

Whose hands, so skilled, offer abundantly

Fine foods, rare things, filling the human heart

Living life, having this, so fresh

Having eaten, remember all who suffer

No rice, lacking clothes, headache

No place to stay at night, all night long, sleeping on the street

Thinking over and over, feeling pity

Pitying the poor, lacking beds, lacking food.

So one must try to be thrifty

Take money to help those lacking blankets, lacking mosquito nets

Help people in hardship generally

Help even a little, that too will share

Help each other to ease the heat and cold

That way the heart is glad, dispelling every sorrow!

When eating, use the gums, so as to replace teeth

If the food is hard, then don't bother

So, meat, fish, vegetables and coconut

I have avoided them all, they don't suit my mouth

As for rice, soft and tender comes first

Fish sauce spicy-sweet fragrant long, delightful

Fancy restaurants, delicacies, I don't fancy

I don't respond to them, have long kept away

My heart has spoken honestly

Please don't fuss and elaborate, I'll be glad!

If anyone asks you

Whom you love most, speak clearly

Coming into the world is the realm of yin and yang

Day and night are two different paths

Born there are the poor and the rich

There are men, there are women, different tastes, different natures

Some people so beautiful, so lively

Some people so ugly, bodies like ghosts

Young, then at a hundred, must grow old

Living, then must die, seen as winter sleep

Never then reaching the pretend winter

Roses aren't red forever, past red they turn brown

Love whoever as your heart wishes

Love yourself first is the lifelong maxim

Then find friends, full and empty

Whoever suffers, life is joyful!

The East, from of old until now

Familism is set out to bring honor

Affection wishing to stir the proper name;

Joy and sorrow shared, all around evenly enjoyed

Whoever is sad sheds tears and cries out

Everyone responds, all grieving to fainting

Whoever is glad, has some happy matter

Everyone shows it, indeed rejoicing together.

The West has no shared joy

The West has no shared sorrow together.

Individualism comes first

One's own affairs, one decides, no asking of others' matters

Whoever is cheerful, let them, they're cheerful

Whoever is sad, let them, one laughs, laughs on

No asking about others' absent matters

So East and West find it hard to walk the same road

Though both live under the sun
